Where Still Photography and Motion Pictures Meet PDF Print E-mail
Written by Paul Gero

Introduction

I had planned for another topic for this month’s article, but after attending the Sunday portion of The Collision Conference (the last weekend in August) I thought it would be timely to share what I saw. http://www.imagemechanicsexpo.com /

The conference was planned only about 3 months ago as a way for still photographers and motion photographers to come together and share what they know, to see what’s available in terms of the tools, and to examine how the two worlds are colliding (and perhaps even merging).

On the drive up to LA, I was excited about what I would learn and after the conference I felt that I was witnessing what might very well be the most radical upheaval and change in the still photography industry since the advent of digital capture.

I was only able to attend Sunday and had to leave before seeing movie Director of Photography Shane Hurlbut’s keynote on Sunday evening but still found the experience truly eye-opening (especially when seeing footage from the RED camera – more on that coming up).
