Hello everyone:

I cannot thank you all enough for the 25+ posts on wedding lighting. I've learned a great deal and my second wedding this past Saturday went very well.

Now....the main question. My apologies if this has been talked about, but I didn't see any threads. If I may ask, where do you have your work printed? I use WHCC (www.whcc.com) and have really been impressed by their work. I soft proof to get the best screen/print final product. I have a little issue with color shifting on bold red and yellow colors - nothing major unless I get crazy with really rich color. I assume this is an issue with most print companies? But, just thought I would start some discussion on the most important element (in my opinion).....the final product! By the way, WHCC ships free (2 day) and the turn around time is unreal. I can order client proofs on Monday and have them at my door Thursday.

Again, I appreciate any advice..

Jason

I use Mpix personally, and their parent company is Millers. They ship within 24 hours too, it's just the postal service that can take a day or two. I like their customer Service alot, John and Matt are the best! They'll take care of whatever problem you end up with.

Jason,

If you're soft proofing using the printer profiles from whcc (at the bottom of the pricing and resources page, if you haven't downloaded them already), you can then turn on "Gamut Warning" under the View menu, and it will flag areas of colors that cannot be reproduced by the printer, like those rich red or yellow colors. You can tweak the colors until you don't get any out-of-gamut colors, or until you get some colors that you can live with. I assume you have your monitor calibrated and profiled.

Most of my prints are thru Filmet (www.profilmet.com). I order today by 10 am and get them tomorrow by noon, no shipping. And since I do my own CC, it's only $1/unit. And they offer a full range of products, press, albums, sports stuff, and a lot more.

For proof prints I use ABC Photo out of Mystic CT. 12c color corrected 4x6 prints that are just great, with good turnaround and great customer service. they do other stuff as well, but i've not tried them for that.

For some specialty stuff and coffee table books I use H&H color lab. They also have very fast turnaround and fantastic customer service.

As to color issues - you MUST be working on a color corrected computer/monitor setup. You can handle your own color or let the lab do it. I handle it myslef but check the prints against my monitor every so often. I have more issues with too dark/too light overall rather than color issues, and I can probably blame myself for not working in a dark enough room, or doing some work in the day and some at night - the ambient light in the room when editing can effect what you see and do, editing wise.
