Sometimes understanding a little bit about how something works helps us deal with the device a little better. I think that holds true with today’s ink jet printers. One of the most frustrating things in the printing process is when prints suddenly start coming out bad. There are a lot of things that can go wrong. For now we are going to look at the printer and the most common things that can go wrong like clogged nozzles. When something goes wrong in the printing process we need to rule out the printer first, mostly because it is the easiest thing to test. The two most common problems a printer encounters is misalignment of the print heads and clogged nozzles. Modern printers are self-aligning and do a great job. If you start to see blurry prints or colored edges on lines and text, then you could have an alignment issue. Run the alignment procedure and then reprint the image that showed the problem and see if it has been corrected. Nozzle clogs are a different story. If everything was going along great and then all of a sudden your images start to have an unwanted cast to them, chances are you have many nozzles clogged. If you start to see slight banding in select color ranges, chances are you have a few, or as little as one, clogged nozzle.
