Copyright registration question 1 Year, 2 Months ago

I got lazy about registering images as unpublished and now find myself in a minor predicament. The images that appear in my new book are obviously published. I know that I have to separate them from the batch of unpublished images that I am preparing for the copyright office [sorry--I know that this is probably a US only question]. Here's my question: Do I need to register the images as published myself if the book has been registered with me as the author?
On a related issue, does anyone know when the online registration option will be available? I checked the LOC website yesterday but it still said "Summer 2007."
Thanks.
Steve

Steve,
The previous registration for the book will likely cover all the content but it will only count as registering a single work. In other words, if someone infringes a dozen images, you will only be able to recover statutory damages collectively and not on a per image basis.

Thanks Bert...that makes sense. Now, would there be a problem if I went and "re-registered" them as individually published pieces?
Lesson learned: register as unpublished whenever possible.
