Hi Everyone!
So i've learned this new technique and i was wondering what you guys think about it. i've been wanting to offer this special effect to my clients but don't know if it's something a lot of people would be interested in. It's a very drastic look, i think. i guess i just want to see how people's reaction to it. thanks all in advance for any advice or replies.

Aloha Dalmir23!

I call that "Hollywood lighting"...dramatic hard shadows. I do it with a spot grid on the key light and about a 5 to 1 ratio on the fill. Sometimes adding a hairlight, but almost always with a dark background to add drama. I love it for boudoir photography, and sometimes for portraits of men.

I think if you are going to make a special offering of this type of lighting, you should glamourize it by giving it a name...like "Drama Look", or "Hollywood Look"...

All the best!
Aloha,

I'm not fond of it personally but you might find a client or two that would like it. In the sample you posted the mood and the lighting don't appear to be congruent. As mentioned above, I've seen this lighting work well for figure studies and boudoir sessions.

I love this type of lighting--very sleek and dramatic. It was handled well in your sample, but David's comment about matching the mood to the light is right on.

hi Dalmir,

The lighting is great but personally I dot like the lack of sturation for portrature but I think as David said, there are people who might like the effect. Just try some vignetting.

Carlos
