Saving jpegs in an action--help! 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I am trying to write an action to resize a jpeg, move my name onto the resized jpeg, flatten it and resave it as a jpeg [I'd like to resize jpegs to send to the copyright office and I have A LOT to send]. The glitch is in the save part of the action--the "save as jpeg" dialog box keeps popping up for each image when I try to run a batch action---even though the "save" command was "OK'ed" when I recorded the action. I've tried it with and without the "override 'save as'" command checked in the batch dialog box. Does anybody know what I am doing wrong?

Stephen,

I tried the same thing and mine seems to work. The only thing I can think of is did you hit close? If that's not in the action it can cause that to happen. That's the only thing I can think of? Other than that I'm can't think of anything else. I'm running on CS3. Hope that's of any help.

Matt

Hi Matt,

Yes, "close" was part of the action. I even tried it with the "save and close" option selected in the batch dialog window.

Thanks for the idea though.

Hmmm. Well, you've got me stumped. I tried. Let me know if you figure it out.

Aloha all!

Well not being a PS expert....Here's what I think I've found: If you have not done anything to an image and saved it previously, when you run any action, it will make you click the save as box for every one. If you have previously done something to it and saved it, no problem!
Good luck with it...

Stephen, get IOpener. It will allow you to do a lot, among others:

  • Save multiple files from one image, say a 5x7 proof, a web optimized image and a full size image for print

  • Execute one or more actions for each file you want to save

  • Override save dialogs, specifying .jpg quality settings etc

  • Batch process a folder of images, executing actions - possible lots of actions, creating save folders and saving multiple versions

When you are done with a series of shots, import them into a folder and let Photoshop/IOpener handle them in batch mode while you work on the next session.

Many of the girls I take photograph wants images that are suitable for the web (Friendster) and supplying a resized image, framed and with a vignette really enhances the image and makes the girl happy.

They want to select the images for print and then go straight home and upload the images after the session, sending links to their friends.

Here are examples of before and after images using IOpener and Photoshop - all automated after import:

Before

After processing
http://www.prophotoresource.com/gallery/p17_sectionid/16/p17_imageid/189

This particular action also ran the Portraiture plug-in to smoothen skin

Regards
Michael
