Hi Craig,

IF the situation is due to the white balance, then the culprit is color temperature. The temperature of light is measured on the Kelvin scale and many light sources are at different temperatures. Your lightbulbsat home for example are closer to tungsten [about 3,200 K] than noon sunlight [about 5,500-6,000 K]. If you shot on daylight white balance with your home lightbulbs, you'd get a warm amber color shift because the lights were at a lower color temperature than your camera was set for. Conversely if you set your camera to tungsten and shot outside at high noon you'd get a blue cast because the light had a higher color temperature than what your camera was set for. I'll post some examples in the gallery.

Yes, it is a PS option. It can also be used as a Layer adjustment.

Hi Chris,

Yes, I'm working on a Selective Color command story now. It'll be ready soon.

StephenDantzig:
Hi,

I like to shoot against a white backdrop. I light it so it goes white without detail. My white balance is set for flash/day light. I use the white, black and a gray square on Macbeth color card to color correct in post production. [I use one of Dave Cross' techniques for finding the correct gray square] This technique works beautifully most of the time---but with the white I sometimes get a blue cast to the backdrop. I can select the white and create a new layer with just the background and put this layer on top of the curves adjustment layer, but this seems to defeat the purpose of lighting it properly. Any suggestions?

Hi, Something that I started doing when shooting on a white background ( which for me is about 90 percent of the time), is set my camera to Custom WB this and shot a grey card, sounds simple enough, but man did it help with both Hey Key and Low Key lighting, I found that I was getting a blue caste on my white backgrounds becuase I was trying too hard to hit the skintones, this solved the issue for me and now I hit the skintones too
