At the risk of being laughed of the forum does anyone use anything other than Photoshop for image editing?

George, when you say editing to you mean zit removal, fly away hairs etc...
or do you also include raw processing in that list.

I personally use a host of programs including

iView Media Pro for culling through my images and getting rid of the bad ones.

Capture One and Apple Aperture for Raw Image processing

Panorama Maker for Stitching Pano's (The best 30 bucks you'll ever spend.)

I typically only use photoshop for doing clean up and printing.

I hope this answers your question.

I'm curious to hear what others are using.

Cris...

I'm using PSCS2. I don't know what the other programs do, but Photoshop is absolutely amazing. I personally think you need a program that handles layers and layer masks along with RAW conversion--at a minimum. Do other programs have these features?

Hi Steve,
For anything more than RAW conversion Photoshop is an absolute necessity.
But where it shines for image editing, in my opinion it lacks in other areas.
Maybe CS3 will change all that. By the way there is public beta of CS3 available from adobe right now.

For RAW conversion in my opinion there are definitely better programs for doing that and i find that some work better than others for particular kind of photography. Maybe it's just me but I absolutely love my output from Capture One with my landscape work and have never been terribly happy with it out of Photoshop's RAW converter.

If your a Mac user Aperture is worth taking a hard look at, if you have the processing power to run it. It's non destructive editing features will take you 98% of the way to a finished image before you ever need to open up photoshop. It's really a fantastic program.

If you are a landscape shooter or do interior panorama's don't even bother trying to stitch them together in Photoshop. I was introduced to Panoramamaker by ArcSoft a few months ago and I will tell you, it's the best 30 bucks i've ever spent. Download the trial and see for yourself. It's unbelievable what this program can do. I can have a seamless pano in 30 seconds which use to take me an hour to do in photoshop.

Again i know that some people don't want to invest in multiple programs and want to get the most bang for their buck with photoshop and try to use it as a swiss army knife, but I think when you begin integrating other programs into your workflow each of which shines in it's respected area then you truly have the most powerful photo editing arsenal you can have.

Again this is all subjective and this is what works for me. Others may have very different experiences and I'd love to hear what works for each of you.

What software do you include in your post processing workflow?

Cris...
