Before I go, I want to add two clarifications.

1. Picking up PW or any other wireless trigger solution will not solve the power recycling problem.

2. When we say "shoot CLS in M mode" (to get consistent result), the remote flash is still in the CLS "remote" mode. The M is selected for the remote on the master flash. This is in contrast to, say, setting the remote itself to M mode (no CLS) and use a PW to trigger it. The difference is when you want to change the power, you don't need to walk up to the remote if you use CLS.

Sorry to disagree, but I just checked and double checked. You can use the CLS to trigger all of the flashes in manual settings. I might set one at full one at half and another two at a quarter. The deal is that you have to set the mode for each channel on the master flash or master controller. Each group can be set individually. You just have to toggle through the menu on the master flash. There is a manual mode right there in the window. What you can't do is set the mode on the back of each flash to anything other than "remote". All the flash control comes from the master flash each off camera flash must be set to remote. Hope that helps.

Hey guys! Howsit! Since I've long sense stopped using my SBs in CLS mode, and am really happy with the SkyPorts, can I ask you, when in CLS mode and you've set the SBs to manual, is there still that lag time between pressing the shutter and the actual capture due to the lights sending their pre-flash and data?

Just curious...and Mahalo!

You can not set the flashes themselves to manual and use CLS. You must set each flash to "remote" and then use the menu on your master flash to set the mode on each individual flash. If you are using manual focus there will be very little delay. Most of the delay seems to be the autofocus. With the SU-800 unit as the master or commander there are no visible flashes. Hope this helps.
