ok, Chris,
how do I convert sRGB images to a cymk? (using PSE6)
I don't believe it's possible. You might be able to find a separate utility that can convert your TIF or JPG files from sRGB to CMYK. Otherwise, put this on your list of reasons to upgrade to Photoshop. Another alternative may be The GIMP, and use the Image->Mode->decompose command to get to CMYK. (GIMP is freeware)
Be careful, though. The color gamut of CMYK is much smaller than sRGB. For example Blue (#0000FF) does not exist in CMYK. You have to take this into account when preparing work for the printer.
JessE: never mind....I don't need a 1000 of anything...will need to find a smaller minimum ordering size than gotprint.
You're going to come across this with any print job you're going to do. I just had some business cards printed, and the printer required CMYK based JPG files. Some printers will take the sRGB JPG file and do the colorspace conversion for you, but then you've abandoned control over the conversion process, and won't be able to see (proof) the results before you get the order from the printer.
Best to figure it out now, before you have to do this for a paying client.
