lab "stretching" images to prevent white lines 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, one thing I offer a lot to my clients are storyboards or custom collages. I've mainly used WHCC for all my prints and storyboards and have been happy with the ease of Roes, prints and customer service.

However, as I was a first a graphic designer before a photographer, I can't grasp this concept of stretching the image "slightly" to prevent thin white lines. I've contacted Bay Photo and they do this as well. What then happens is I can't trust what I see on my screen and my borders, edges and/or text can't be counted on to be centered or evenly spaced around the edge.

I am supposed to leave up to a 1/4" to prevent main parts of my image from being cropped. This is not a problem, however, since the stretch is not even or consistent around the edges of the photo, I still have to deal with unevenness and sometimes grunge edges being cropped. So I find myself designing and trying to guess what the print "might" end up like.

Is this common throughout most labs. If so, do you have any suggestions for a designer gone photographer that misses knowing what she sees on her monitor is what she'll get in her finished product? It's starting to cramp my style

(I couldn't figure out how to attach my latest storyboard here ... you can check it out here at www.jrophotos.com/insideout)

Thanks!!
