I operate my portrait studio entirely by myself more than 95% of the time. I take only one day off, and that day is Monday. So I like to spend the day with my wife, Amanda, and do something completely outside of photography. “Sharpen the ol’ axe” as my friend Steve Dantzig related in his last article for PPR.com. Amanda and I like to play golf, so often that’s what we do on Mondays.
About a month ago as I was having my morning coffee and anticipating a beautiful, relaxing day on the golf course, I received a call from the management company that manages the shopping center where I have my studio. They had been called by the security guard at the center, reporting that the door to my studio was standing open and looked like it had been “tampered with”…
So, instead of enjoying a beautiful day outdoors, we spent the day at my studio, making a list of things stolen, filing a police report, ordering new equipment to replace what was stolen, and waiting around for the front door to be repaired. Not a great “day off”!!
