Can you print on canvas with matte black or photo black? Is it most common for people to be using one over the other?

Canvas falls into two camps. Matte and Gloss. A matte canvas would be used with the matte black ink. A gloss canvas would mostly be used with photo black however with some brands you can use the matte black but the dry time is substantially increased.

With the profesional printers the cost of changing black inks is high so most users would tend to pick the canvas that fits with the black ink they are using.

I was just logging in to ask you the same question about Epson's Watercolor paper? Does this require the Matte or Photo black ink on a 7600 or 4000 epson printer?

Hi Cris,

Epson's premier water resistent canvas is one that can be printed on with both matte of photo black. Our preference would be matte black.

I was specifically talking about Epson's Watercolor Paper? Not the Canvas.

Were you referring to matte ink on watercolor? or can it take both as well.

Just poking my nose in....I have the Epson 4000, and it has both matt and photo black, (as well as light black), and as far as I know, the printer selects the proper black for the media you're printing on. I don't know of a way to select one or the other manually. And if you pull one of the inks out, it just won't print. I've never printed on Epson's watercolor paper, so I don't know about that, but I print on the Epson Premier waterproof canvas quit a bit. Comes out fantastic! I use the glossy canvas, and the watercolor radiant white setting on the printer for media.
