Hey Stan,
You are correct, i've got a 4000 as well and that's the nice thing about it it has both matte and photo black, however i'm not so lucky with the 7600. I've got a client that wan'ts some watercolors printed on water color paper but i'm not going to do it if it only works with matte paper as i'm not about to flush the lines out on my 7600 for this job.

Cris,

With water color papers you are going to want to use matte black. Your dynamic range would be to limited with photo black.

With the Epson driver when you select the media setting for the paper type it will force you into the black ink they have programmed for that paper type. Third party RIP's will allow you to use any combination you want.

I just purchased a 9800. You still have to use either photo black or matte black so upgrading to 7800/9800 does nothing for you in that sense. Not quite sure what you were getting at Stan.
