I've uploaded all the raw-files on my website. No editing done, correcting and what so ever.

What do you think? Should I process one file and give the magazine as an example of what I think the pictures should look like. I have been thinking of desaturate the background and leave the model in in right color. With the I submit 2-3 pictures of every shot, or how does it go? Remember this i my first job for a magazine.

Thanks for you suggestions, and special thanks to Dantzig. I have used your recommendations what you have in your book, Mastering Lighting Techniques.

Hi Robert,

Looks like an interesting shoot! Thanks for the comments [and plug!]

What did you arrange with your client for delivery? I'd send them an edited version [low resolution] for them to choose the finals and then do the retouching.

I send her the link to all pictures and let her choose the pictures which fits into the magazine. Below her comment:

Everything is great about these pictures, the location, the style, the way they are shot. The only weakness is the models. But that's not your fault. If you would like to shoot for us again sometime, we'll even pick the models for you if you want!

Thank you again. This is the most important article in the magazine, so we needed you very much.

The last part about how important the article is was very interesting. She is working with some photographers already and they have much more experience than I have.

Anyway, for me I hope my pictures in the magazine help me with my business. Free work do not bring food to the table and a one paid job every 2nd month do not pay the bills either. I do not know if it's same in US to get started as it is here in Finland. Believe me, it's very hard here. And that's I'm shooting in public to get some pr and to get noticed.

The lack of work start to make me think that I lack in my photography in some way. Have you had that feeling or is it that my pictures are not good enough?

Robert,

It is tough all over. Don't give up and keep plugging away. I haven't figured out the "secret" to getting consistent paid work either. Some of it is talent and a lot of it is luck. A friend of mine always says that "Luck is when opportunity meets preparation." You are working of the preparation part and that is good...now it is a matter of being aware of the opportunities when they present themselves...like most of us!

I have a feeling that only a very small, select group of photographers make big money from assignments.

A lot of very talented photographers appear to earn a lot of their money teaching the rest of us how to take pictures and earn money - especially in the Landscape Photography field. I read one photographers comment on how hard it was to get the right jobs, if you were not gay and had influental friends in NYC.. Probably half a joke, but it must be very hard to establish a business.

About your idea of motion blur for the background: Is there a place on the station where you can keep the model in fairly deep shade while keeping the background/passing people in brighter light. That should help reducing the amount of ambient light on the model, reducing possible blur ? Perhaps later in the day with less light through the glass roof...

Regards
Michael
