Hi all,

I'm a wedding and portrait photographer but also do some comercial photography . I was asked to photograph this clamato beverage because it was invented in my hometown Mexicali, Baja and they are going to use the image in National Geographic Magazine and in their promotions.

They don't have an idea of how they want it, they let me choose.
So I made this shot. I wanted a little splash when I poured the beverage
but it didn't happen. Any tips on how tu do the splash thing?
I took it with Fuji S5 and a 70-200mm f2.8 lens VR lens at 125 at f11.

Hi Carlos,
Here are a couple links that might help, but Mr. Crockett would be the man to ask about this. Hopefully he'll check in and give us some input.

Aloha Carlos!

Congrats on the account! Sounds like a choice one!

First fill the glass nearly all the way....THEN make the pour that you want to splash. You may have to do it several times to get it. Good Luck

Wow great content on the pages. Thanks Cris. I took the drinks menu from Chilis restaurant and got the water idea from there. Just don't tell anyone

Hi Stan, that's how I did the shot but I didn't get the splash. But I only did it twice, I think I'll have to do it a few more times to get it right.

Thanks for the input.

Hey Carlos,
As you discovered, shooting liquids is a tough job, but you really made a great image here. To get more splash, you need to create a surface for the liquid to splash off of. When you pour the drink from a pitcher into the drinking glass, it pours onto itself - the liquid flows down from the pitcher and "plops" on top of the surface of the liquid that already in the glass - making a lousy splash. But if you place or float a piece of ice, glass, plexi right at the place you want the splash you will see the liquid "bounce" off of it and make a better splash. By changing the size and shape of the ice you can alter the splash. Personally, I like to use a "ski slope" shape that tips back up at the bottom. I will take some of the colored liquid, freeze it overnight in a few of the glasses, then "carve" it to the thickness and shape I want by using hot water from the fawcett. : )
On the other hand, you can buy, rent, or have a splash made from Trengrove studios in NYC that looke better than real life. We've used them a few times with great results!
Thanks Carlos!
