Hi Robert,

There are many parts of this image that are handled very nicely. It has a nice clean look and the can is lit nicely. Highlights on the right side of the glass might help create the illusion you want. A soft overhead light would also rim the top of the glass which might also make the soda look lighter...but then again, you are lighting a black liquid! I haven't tried this kind of product shot in a long time. Maybe it's time to stretch the horizons!

Add ICE, Hammar-man! It adds space and volume that is clear and so lightens the whole thing. Or you could add water if you don't want ice in it. That will dilute it and lighten it.

When we shot stuff like this (and red wine) we would always put a little white or silver reflector card directly behind the glass, cut to match the shape of the glass and would use a focusable spot light to pop light onto that card which would then push light through the glass without changing any other part of the photograph. You could improve the feeling of the photo by adding condensation to the can and the glass. You could do it naturally by chilling them both or you could paint on the condensation with a water/glycerin mix. You also need to do a fresh pour just before you shoot the frame so that the carbonation shows and you get a little "head" to the top. Thanks. Kirk Tuck

Robert, this one is for you. I photographed it during my vacation, completely independent of your post...

Hi all!

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I like the idea of reflector and top lightning. And believe it or not. This shot was taken with two small Canon Speedlites, one in the background to get it red, and the other one on camera left with a Photoflex LitePanel. On camera right I used a silver reflector.

I have to modify a toplight so I can a light beam where I want it into a the glas. And of course get a fill card behind the glass.

The only problem I have now is that all my camera equipment are stolen so I don't have any tools to work with.
