I'm a big fan of having a calibrated flash meter, and have been trained over the years by the best, Will Crockett.

So here's my question: The only place I've been able to calibrate my meter is at SSU! Is there an article written on how to go about doing that? I have been considering buying another meter, but with no plan in place to get it "trusted," I'm afraid it would be a very expensive paperweight.

From what I remember..."calibration" is based in creating a histogram Face-Mask...there should be more info on that at shootsmarter.com.

Based upon your histogram you can dial in the compensation accordingly into your meter.

I hope you don't mind I answer this question. Will Crockett's DVD "Digital Exposure Control" shows you step by step how to calibrate your flash meter.

Oops my bad. The name of the DVD is actually "Calibrating Your Flash Meter". It's an older DVD and I am not even sure it's available on the SSU Store website. Also, the technigue uses film! I use it ever so often it's easy and works great. I think I purchased mine from off the Bogen website long before Shootsmarter had it's own web store. It comes with a diagram of the setup and a master set of 3 medium format exposures showing you 3/10ths under, normal, and 3/10ths over exposure examples.
