Here is the scenario. Being such an expert on pricing, not, any more help would be appreciated.
Same company as in previous post wants to come to studio about once or twice a month to shoot two to three products. They are large industrial valves and associated parts. By large I mean maybe two feet long, a foot high, etc. Not gigantic. Heavy but very portable. All shot on white background. Not real difficult for me but not all that easy either as we all know. Some of the images certainly require lighting changes. Shiny black surfaces, etc. Its not totally 'drop one in, shoot it, replace with another' photography.
Image uses are not totally revealed yet. Mostly it is for there own marketing (brochure, and web) of what they do which is design valve systems for industry. They are distributors of other companies products and of there own. Not totally sure how they use the images. They are getting back to me about whether or not the images wind up in the hands of other companies to use in there advertising. Thats one thing I'm concerned about. I don't want to be photographing for one company and then having third parties using it. What about when a company makes a product then sends an image to another company who then in turn uses the image because it distributes the original companies product?
So, my question is how would you (anyone that answers this post) approach this? Would you do it on a per piece with a minimum? Figure your CODB and then the time it might take to shoot each piece? What usage rights do you usually give a company when shooting objects like this? If they are creating a brochure would you really try to determine usage by what size they use an image in that brochure? Mostly when you shoot things like this companies really don't know how a brochure will ultimately be laid out. Thanks for any additional thoughts!!!

Hi Craig,

It's not uncommon for Company A to send Company B photos to be used in Company B's catalog. Personally, I would grant Company A unlimited use for that manner of publication because they must sell product to stay in business, which ultimately brings more business to me. I would specify on my invoice that, while they can use the images for catalog and web advertising (which seems to have been already spelled out for you) that a) the images are copyrighted by you and b) all other rights are reserved. You might also wish to specify a time limit for the rights granted but I think you should negotiate this ahead of the shoot.

Obviously, should they decide to use an image in a national advertisement, you deserve more money for additional rights.

I have only one thing to add to Chris' reply: By "All other rights reserved" you mean no third party leases...if Company B wants to lease the image then they come to you for the use and not to Company A. By the same token if you leased Company A exclusive rights then you cannot lease the image to Company B for the duration of the exclusive license to Company A.
