Yeah I like the candidness of the shot but I agree about the focus. I think by maybe changing your perspective a little more around to the front you would have flattened the focal plane to go across her face instead of only including the one flat side that was towards you. Always try to think that camera is focusing like it is looking at a plane of glass that is at the exact angle as the front of your lens. So at that extremely low depth of field, you really are focusing on such a thin sliver that every subtle change in angle brings things into and out of focus. I would have also liked to see a reflector or more of a reflector on the right side so as too knock down the contrast a bit so that you would not have to overexpose the bright side of the image to get the detail in the shadow side of the face. These little things are hard to think about while shooting children so thats why practice makes perfect. Being able to think of these things on the fly so that you can still capture this great expression but at the same time you can have the best focus and lighting possible.

hi jhjphoto!
i like your photo a lot. i like the way you got really close to her face and also the moment you caught. I would have liked to see some type of special affect on it, i think. i'm not a photographer myself but i'm a photo editor and i think a photo can always benefit from a little magic (photoshop). hehe. i like it. it's great.
