Model Releases 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I was asked to post my version of a model release. There are some professionals who suggest getting a release for EACH shoot. I've been using this form for years and have yet to have a problem with the "all images created in [year]" clause. I feel comfortable with that because I often shoot with the same model and this saves space in my safe! I also get a separate permission form signed whenever I am shooting any kind of nude work. This form is signed before we shoot the photographs--overkill? Maybe, but it goes along with the philosophy that I wrote about in my "Trust' article and it has come in handy on at least one occasion.

YOUR LETTERHEAD
___________________________________________________________________________
Permission to Use Photographs
I am (am not) of legal age. For good and valuable consideration, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, I hereby authorize your name, your company name and anyone working with your name (hereafter referred to as “the photographer&#8221 to take pictures, captured in any format (including but not limited to film, digital technology and video), of me and/or my property and authorize the photographer and his/her assigns and transferees to use and reuse and publish and republish and sell and resell and display publicly the same (including use and publication of my name, no name, or a fictitious name) in any forum known and unknown at this time (including but not limited to digital/internet publication); use in the form taken or with intentional or unintentional alterations; and use for the purpose of publicity, illustration, commercial art, and in the advertising of any product or services.

I will receive: FILL IN WHAT YOU WILL GIVE THE MODEL

If possible, I do/do not wish to receive model credit of published pieces. Use my name as ______________________ on these pieces.

For value received I assign full Rights in this release to: Your name for all images created during the year 2006.

Steve, Do we have an example of a release the photographer gives to a company authorizing them to use duplicate, reprint images from a shoot for internal purposes and internal publications? And if used for external publications, that photographer acknowledgments must be posted with the image? Perhaps one has already been posted but I just need an example. Also, wouldn't this then be the time to get a release from the company in case you want to post some images on your web to prmote your business and clientel? Here is your release and now I need a release from you. Quid Quo Pro

Sorry, I just saw this. It sounds like you are talking about things that would go into the licensing agreement: i.e., "Images may be used by XYZ Company in any internal publications for a period of ABC months/years, etc. External use must be cleared through photographer upon payment of appropriate fees." Your use of the images on your website would need to be agreed upon in advance too because use on your site can be considered advertising.

Hi guys,

Don't mean to hijack your post. Steve, do you or anyone else have any suggestions on handling releases for individual images taken during an event such as a family reunion, birthday party, etc. Is there a way to get a bulk release for all images taken during the course of the event? Who would sign such a release? Can the person signing the release do so for everyone attending? I have seen many event photographers place images online of people and things taken during the course of the event where the images were used as examples, i.e. advertising, for their work. I realize that at some events such as charity, concerts, modeling or contests, the participants are required to sign releases by the event organizer.

Regards,
George

Hi George, I thought I had replied...sorry. This might be a better question for Carolyn, but my impression would be that Person A could not sign for Person B unless A was B's parent or guardian and B was a minor and/or incompetent to sign.
