Currently I do not have liability insurance, but I have some shoots coming up where the client requires that I do have. Most professional associations have cut deals with insurance companies to obtain discounted rates for their members, but apparently neither of the two associations I belong to, IAAP and AIAP have not, so your suggestions and recommendations will be appreciated.

Aloha Henry1!
Check out wedj.com. As a member of the site you can get the insurance you need for liability and even your equipment for theft and damage for real reasonable! You have to be a paying member, Bronze level or higher, but that's only $49/yr, you get a listing on their site, and a link to your site, and I saved 70% over what I was paying for a year here locally. And my previous ins was only liability...Now I have a million bucks liability which covers me wherever I work whether at my studio or on location, and it covers my all equipment for replacement value, and I pay only $400/year! I was paying $1200/yr just for liability B4!

Henry,
The AIAP does offer an insurance package on the "Benefits & Offers" page in the AIAP member's area. This particular package is endorsed by WPPI, Editorial Photographers and the AIAP among others.
A liability policy is an absolute neccesity--don't do business without one!
Best,
Alan

Insurnce for me has been a must. I currently carry two million dollars worth, for some of my clients that is minimume that is acceptable. I even had one client that wanted me to have 2.5 million in explosion insurance before he would let me on the building site. I use a regular insurance agent and pay $480.00 per year.
