Say Cris,

Mind sharing what you like about Lightroom that's different or not found in MediaPro and/or CaptureOne?

Also, do you have any problems transferring ratings/tags/keywords done in other programs to LR?

Thanks!

Larry

Hey Larry,
The way i see it you kind of answered your own question for me
It's one program that let's me ingest, keyword, catalog, edit and export.

Is it a perfect program not really, not quite yet, but does it work for my particular workflow YOU BET! I have all the faith that Adobe will continue to refine and make this program better, faster and have even more features than it currently does. That might be an oxy moron more features and faster

As far as it bringing in your rating system from other programs i'm not terribly sure of that since i've never really had any kind of system in place before going to lightroom.

I hope this helps, I say download the demo if you haven't already and play around with it and see if works for your particular flow.

Good luck and hollar if you have any other questions.

Cris...

Thanks, Cris.

I played with the LR beta some as well as the v1.0 trial. It expired sometime ago. Went through the exercise of importing, WB/color correction, selection, resize and convert to small JPEG for web (the musical shoot). All that worked really well in Lightroom.

Now I'm back to using two programs and finding that quite silly. Import and select in MediaPro, then tag/rate/select keepers, copy them to another directory, switch over to CaptureOne LE, open that directory, tweak some WB and then batch convert to JPEG. Wait, make that three programs cuz I had to use Photoshop to batch resize (not sure how to do that in C1 if there's a way)...

So yeah, I think LR is really nice in that sense.

I've been working with Lightroom for a month now. I did have to purchase a new computer with more RAM, but I was due.

What I like about it is that you can do all of your minor contrast adjustment and little exposure tweeks in lightroom as a batch then export directly to a web gallery without even going to Photoshop.

I do wish that it allowed you to imbed my own copyright watermark. That part of it doesn't seem to work.

Their web galleries and slide shows are quite elegant, with quite a few templates from which to choose.

I'm liking it alot. It makes a huge difference when you have lots of images to wrestle and when speeding up your workflow is a necessity.

That being said, I'm looking forward to subsequent versions.

Hello everyone! I've been using LR through the beta and now 1.0. I think it's an excellent 1.0 release with many features to come.

I particularly like the live presets and virtual copy functions. Jack Davis has put together a rather large collection of LR presets which you can download for free at http://www.ononesoftware.com/photopresets-wow.php. He's also put together a good set of video tutorials on how to effectively use his presets.

Keep an eye out for an upgrade very soon. Adobe plans to respond to photographers and roll out upgrades on a much quicker cycle that the suite apps.

Gene,
Agreed, i absolutely love Lightroom and am finding myself speding less and less time in Photoshop which is a good thing.

Jack's free presets are AWESOME!, if you don't mind spending a few bucks both David Jay and Kevin Kubota have created some as well that are very nice and help speed up a typical wedding workflow. Definitely worth checking out.

I can't wait to see what the future holds for this program.
