I found this link over at the Lightroom Killer Tips site this evening to it's to a small plugin to LR called Enfuse that Timothy Armes has developed that will allow you to select a series of images at which point you run Enfuse which will merge the images together and import them back into LR for final tweaking. I've yet to try it but it looks pretty cool.

Cool i've been swampped here so i haven't had a chance to try it myself.
