Slow down.

I repeat it like a mantra over and over again to the photographers who have joined me to discover and document Downtown Los Angeles for the Walking in the Company of Strangers workshop (www.blackbootsink.com). They’re eager, abuzz from the potential of color, light and humanity that brings the streets of the city alive. Broadway, the street that cuts through the heart of this area is filled with ripe fruit. Just raise the camera, depress the shutter release button and you may have something.

We spend the early morning hours capturing images of an awakening street. There’s a chill, which seems to possess a sharper sting, because of the lack of people. That will soon change. We take a break and return to the loft to review the morning’s work and the problem quickly reveals itself.
